Everything you would otherwise piece together from county maps, municipal ordinances and a phone call to the building department.

JurisdictionWho reviews and inspects

The borough, township, city or county that has authority at the parcel, with its office address, phone and website, and how confident the match is.

Handles county-run areas, towns that hand their review to a third-party agency, and boundaries that do not follow the ZIP code.

Whether the AHJ follows the state code or adopts its own, which edition of each I-code and ASCE 7 applies, and when it took effect.

Useful where the state sets no minimum and towns stay on older editions.

Design criteriaWind, snow and seismic

How the jurisdiction is found

An address can sit in one town while its ZIP code and mailing city point to another, so AHJInfo checks it three ways.

  1. Place the address

The address is geocoded to a point, with its county, city, ZIP code and ground elevation.

  2. Test it against boundaries

The point is checked against mapped municipal boundaries, including islands and cut-outs.

  3. Apply county rules and history

County-wide jurisdictions and confirmed past lookups settle the cases maps alone can't.
